Our Story

"We are the ones we've been waiting for"

  • JUNE JORDAN.

When it’s time to choose a university, many African and Caribbean students look beyond the rankings.

They check the ACS. The African and Caribbean Society.

Because experience tells us something simple: if the ACS is active, visible and well-supported, you’ll probably be okay. You’ll find your people. You’ll find community. You’ll find momentum.

That says a lot.

ACSs do more than host events. They create belonging. They share opportunities. They pass down knowledge. Quietly, consistently, they’ve built something powerful on campuses across the UK: infrastructure for student success.

We’ve seen it from both sides.

We benefited from ACSs as students. Later, we served on committees. We saw the late nights, the WhatsApp groups, the budgeting battles, the hustle to make things happen with very little.

And we noticed something frustrating.

Despite often being some of the largest and oldest student groups on campus, ACSs were underfunded. Under-supported. Most Student Unions are designed around sports societies and often relegate cultural societies in their planning.

At some point, the question became unavoidable:

What would happen if ACSs had proper backing?

If they were able to tap into the power of alumni?

If ideas and resources moved nationally, not just campus to campus?

That’s where ACSN began.

We exist to bring African and Caribbean students, societies and alumni into one coordinated network. To share what works. To unlock resources. To engage partners who believe in the same future.

ACSs have already built the foundation. We want to strengthen it for the prosperity of African and Caribbean students and their communities.
